WCETN NNA-K CHAPTER HOLDS ITS INAUGURAL ASC & AGM

Wound Continence and Enterostomal Therapy Nurses- National Nurses Association of Kenya Chapter  abbreviated as “WCETN-NNAK Chapter” is a specialization chapter for nurses with interest, training and on-job training and practice in the care of patients with wounds, burns, incontinence and ostomy health needs in health care facilities and the community.

VISION

To be a dynamic NNAK Chapter leading in addressing wounds, burns,  continence and enterostomal therapy client needs and respective care providers expectations in training, collaboration and research in Kenya and beyond.

MISSION

The WCETN as a chapter in NNAK shall represent nurses in Kenya to promote quality of life of clients and families, competency development of nurses, ensure excellence in wound continence and enterostomal therapy nursing practice and leadership. This shall be done  through quality WCET nurses training and research whether single handedly or in collaboration with NNAK , health industry partners or other related professions and/ associations within Kenya and beyond.

WCETN NNA-K Chapter with its Mantra of ‘Treating the Whole Patient and not the hole in the Patient’ aims include:

  • Capacity building through training and continuous professional development to promote better wound, burns, continence and ostomy care to patients of all ages.
  • Improved quality of life of clients by enhancing excellent wound, continence and enterostomal care,
  • Prevention of complications associated with wounds, incontinence and ostomies, improve patient outcomes and reduce  morbidity and mortality.
  •  Patient/family support and education: to empower individuals and families towards, adjustments, coping and better lifestyle.
  • Enhance Wound, burns, Continence and Ostomy Supplies Access that significantly contributes to survival and long-term well-being.
  • Promote public awareness on wound,burns,  continence and ostomy care: to demystify misconceptions and stigma around this cohort of patients and their families.
  • Technological Advancements to revolutionize wound ostomy and continence care through research and innovations.
  • To organize and conduct periodic meetings of the WCETN NNAK Chapter for professional growth, continuous training and social purposes.
  • To obtain any moveable or immovable assets/ property as possible.
  • To enter into any arrangement with any institution/association within Kenya and beyond that may seem conducive to the Chapters objectives and to always act in the best interest of the members.
  • To receive and appropriately handle personal or documented appeals, public meetings or otherwise as may   be deemed necessary  for the purpose of soliciting contributions to the fund of the Chapter in form of member registration, donations, annual subscription or otherwise.
  • To apply to available Institutional, government or authority, public bodies, corporations, companies or persons for and to accept grants or gifts of money and of any moveable or immovable property, donations, gifts subscriptions and other assistance with a view to promoting the objectives of the Chapter.

WCETN INAUGURAL ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE & AGM

The chapter aims to be holding annual conferences in May each year among other lined up activities during the financial year.

The Inaugural WCETN NNA-K  Chapter took place in Eldoret on 8th and 9th May 2025 with attendance of 66 delegates from various counties including Nairobi, Kiambu, Homabay Vihiga Uasin Gishu among others with the theme “Advancing Wound Continence and Ostomy Care: Embracing Technology, Innovation and Sustainability in Modern Nursing Practice”.

The Chief Guest Ms Carolyn Sang Ag DNS MTRH led other distinguished guests from Moi Unversity School of Nursing, Directorate of Nursing Uasin Gishu, NNAK main Office , NNAK Uasin Gishu Branch, NNAK Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital Branch,MTRH College of Medicine during the opening ceremony.

There were various presentations on evidence based wound care, appropriate laboratory investigations and mentorship of student nurses in wound burns continence and ostomy care for the chapter practice growth and improved patient outcomes.

There were also presentations from Wound, burns, continence and ostomy products industry partners to ensure adequate knowledge of available care products to enable correct products choices for optimal benefits to patients whilst providing holistic care in health facilities and in the community.
